Royal Family Gets Back to Business – Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Catherine Host G7 Summit

The royal family is getting back to business and demonstrating to the world the power of soft diplomacy and the mystique of the monarchy during the G7 Summit, which gathers world leaders from seven of the world’s most powerful nations.

Some in attendance at this event include Prime Minister Boris Johnson, U.S. President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, who was recently slapped during a walkabout in his home country.

As with big events like this held in the United Kingdom, it was the monarchy’s time to shine and a return to form after a difficult year with COVID and the drama surrounding Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, spent part of the day with new U.S. First Lady Jill Biden. The two focused on early childhood education, which is a passion for both women. The Duchess is preparing to release new information on her Early Childhood project and the First Lady has a Doctorate in Education.

The royal and the wife of the U.S. president met with children aged four and five at a reception class held at the Connor Downs Academy in the Cornish area, where the summit was being held. The two women appeared to coordinate their wardrobe, with both wearing a shade of bright pink, for Catherine it was her dress and for Dr. Biden it was a textured blazer.

In a Twitter post, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said, “Welcome to the UK, @FLOTUS. It was great to host Dr. Jill Biden and experts from the UK and the United States for a discussion on the importance of early childhood on lifelong outcomes, on the first day of the #G7 Summit.”

The First Lady gave a sweet social media response, tweeting, “@KensingtonRoyal, we could have kept going for hours! (heart emoji) Thank you for having me today to talk about an issue we both care deeply about, and one that is critical to the future of both our countries.”

After the engagement, the whole a-list royal team came out in force, including the Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William. They met the attending world leaders at the Eden Project, which is a “lush, domed eco-tourism site built in a former quarry pit. It features several giant domes housing what the project’s website calls ‘the largest rainforest in captivity.’”

It is the first major event for the Queen since the death of her husband in April. She appeared in good spirits, going to the event in a floral dress along with her ever-present handbag and a small brooch.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning in a new white Alexander McQueen coatdress and understated accessories.

As Britain is still trying to negotiate Brexit, the presence of the most senior royal members reflects the soft-diplomacy that the U.K. can unleash when necessary.

After a year of no tiara events or big diplomatic meetings, it’s encouraging to see the royals finally getting back to business. Hopefully, a tiara appearance will happen by the end of this year.
