Meghan Markle has decided that paid family leave is the start of her political ambitions and is now personally calling U.S. lawmakers who she believes could be influenced to her side by using her title, the Duchess of Sussex. Though now, the title should probably be Duchess of Lobbying.

As Maine Senator Marie Collins apparently told Meghan she’s going to do what she feels is best for “ the people of Maine.”

Other politicians should follow suit and ignore the meddling former c-list actress. 

The news first broke through Omid Scobie, who is now being described as a personal friend of Meghan’s by the British media and who consistently advocates on her behalf vis his position as a pseudo “royal reporter.” 

He tweeted, “Big news for the #PaidLeaveForAll movement in the US, which is now back in the #BuildBackBetter Act thanks to orgs such as @PaidLeaveforAll, @FamilyValuesWork, @WorkFamilyCA and efforts from activists such as Duchess Meghan (who wrote a powerful letter to Congress two weeks ago.”

Meghan began her lobbying efforts by writing a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Almost immediately afterwards, the measure was pulled out of the bill.

But Meghan’s advocacy is supposedly has now resulted in paid family leave being added back into the $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act, which is still highly unlikely to pass.

According to reports, or at the very least Omid Scobie, it’s all due to Meghan’s personally lobbying to politicians who she believes she could win over to her side. 

One of the “weak” politicians she identified was Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, which is an incredibly conservative state and highly unlikely to move on such an effort.

“I’m in my car. I’m driving. It says, ‘caller ID blocked,’” the senator said. “I thought it was Senator Manchin. His calls come in blocked. And she goes, ‘Senator Capito?’ I said, ‘Yes?’ She said, ‘This is Meghan, the duchess of Sussex.’”

Capito probably preferred it was Senator Joe Manchin on the phone, the only remaining conservative Democrat who has been stalwart in his opposition to the absolutely massive spending plan being advocated by his party. 

Senator Susan Collins of Maine, who fought off a fierce challenge during her last election, also got a call from Meghan at the gym. 

“Much to my surprise, she called me on my private line and she introduced herself as the duchess of Sussex, which is kind of ironic,” Collins said.

Apparently, it is okay for Meghan to get their personal number and call them, but she is not willing to share her own. It also doesn’t sound like the title “Duchess of Sussex” has much sway on Collins and her decisions.

“I was happy to talk with her, but I’m more interested in what the people of Maine are telling me,” she said.

That’s how it should be. Meghan is a woman who achieved her position based on the man she married and is now using the foreign title given to her by another government to lobby the U.S. elected representatives to enact progressive policies. It seems like she is trying to create her own little kingdom in Montecito, with Prince Harry as a court jester, and treats Americans as peasants who need her benevolent intercession.

But the ex-royal should take stock of what happened last night and perhaps distance herself from her Democrat party and policies she seems to support so much.

The democratic party soundly lost the Virginia election for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, a state President Joe Biden who by 10 points just a year ago. One commentator called the entire thing a “blood bath.” Another gubernatorial race in New Jersey was far too close for comfort, but the incumbent democrat did manage to pull out ahead.

 This means that President Biden and his policies are not as popular as those in Washington seem to believe. In fact, this election could potentially dismantle the whole Build Back Better effort, as politicians in swing states will be more reluctant to blindly follow the unhinged and aggressive progressives within the party.

The reason royals stay out of politics is that it is a finicky game, and the winds of favor can swiftly shift—but Queen Elizabeth II remains one of the most respected women in the world because she does her duty and avoids the politician infighting. She remains above it all, and therefore a dignified presence in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Meghan’s politician ambitions will quickly blow up in her face if she isn’t careful. Her party is likely to get demolished in the midterm elections next year, which will make her look foolish and even more out of touch.

There is some bipartisan support for family leave, but Meghan Markle should stay out of American politics and stick to what she does best, destroying the favorability of the previously most popular royal within his own country and ghosting her family, friends and anyone who stands in the way of her ambitions.

That seems like the only thing she’s good at.
