The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, e.g. Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Middleton, have turned this challenging year, with COVID and Megxit, into one of triumph for the couple. They are more popular now than ever before.
Their Royal Foundation, which Harry and wife Meghan Markle were once part of, has seen a “surge in income last year,” totally £11.78 million, which was double its pre-Megxit income of £6.68 million in 2019.
As one courtier has joked, “It’s the Meghan effect.”
This is considerably good news for the future King and Queen of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. With Megxit and the Oprah Winfrey interview conducted by Meghan and Harry, the royal family has been under considerable strain and there have been concerns about what the future of the monarchy might look like after Meghan called the entire institution and the whole family racist and ignorant of her alleged mental health anguish.
The royal couple also received a considerable grant from the American Friends of the Royal Foundation. Showing that despite playing to an American audience with Oprah, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge still have considerable support in the United States.
As royal reporter Richard Eden has pointed out, “Clearly, the California-based Sussexes haven’t won over all Americans.”
Catherine has also graced Vogue’s Top 25 list of influential women, though she does share the honor with Meghan Markle. However, it is the Duchess’ duties that are taking center stage, according to the so-called fashion bible.
“At an indefinable point in the past few years, the erstwhile Kate Middleton has quietly evolved into a queen-in-waiting,” they said of Catherine. “With the flashier end of royal duties largely on hold during lockdown, it was her charity work rather than her fashion choices that pulled the majority of headlines.”
Prince William’s environmental Earthshot Prize is gaining considerable traction as well, with the future king penning an introduction to a book.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have done a rather incredible job of slowly building support and engaging with the United Kingdom, with an eye on inheriting the monarchy and leading it into the new millennium for their children, specifically Prince George of Cambridge, the future King George VII
They’ve been able to continue the mystique of the monarchy, without sacrificing the privacy of their children. It’s been impressive, considering all of the family strife that’s occurred over the last year.
The English monarchy is in impeccably` good hands.
