Royal Burn – Duchess of Cambridge to Take Over Harry’s Royal Patronage of Rugby Football Union

Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, is tipped to take over the Rugby Football Union royal patronage from Harry, who was officially stripped of his royal patronages this year after he and wife Meghan decided not to return as fulltime royals.

For Harry, no doubt, the change burns a little.

When Harry and his wife left the royal family in 2020, the Queen gave the couple a year to think about it. As it turns out, the bright lights of Hollywood and millions from Netflix and Spotify mean more than the unique task of representing the Queen in the U.K. and around the world.

Shockingly, Harry was reportedly rather surprised and angered that he and Meghan were stripped of their official royal patronages.

Apparently, he failed to realize, or refused to acknowledge, that leaving the royal family would have some consequences.

Months after Megxit was finalized, the royal family is moving on, and they’re not looking back.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who has a keen interest in sports and getting kids outside, is going to inherit the royal patronage of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League from Harry.

Apparently, the Middleton family has always been interested in the sport and consistently watched it as a family.

Pippa, Catherine’s sister, even wrote about how the team they were rooting for lost then their father would be in a state of “despair for the rest of the afternoon.”

The passing of this patronage to Catherine is great and encouraging. She will represent it well, considering that the sport is hoping to get more girls involved.

As a sporty mum with young children, it is a sport she can engage them with as well. In several decades, it’s highly likely that she will pass her representation onto Prince George, Prince Louis or maybe even Princess Charlotte.

But for Harry, this impending announcement probably stings a bit.

When Harry and Meghan shocked the world with Megxit, the couple claimed that they could live in two worlds. They could officially represent the Queen as part-time royals, while also pursuing the bright lights of Hollywood and multimillion-dollar paychecks. The Queen disagreed.

The stripping of their patronage’s is something that they didn’t anticipate initially, but in 2021 that’s what happened.

For Harry in particular, the decision was “upsetting.” He was especially angered about losing the role as Captain General of the Royal Marines, which is a post that Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, is tapped to inherit. If this happens, she will be the first woman to do so.

It’s a sign that the royal family is moving on and moving forward, without Harry and Meghan.

That might have been their decision, but it will be interesting to see whether or not that is a decision Harry regrets.
