After a long hiatus, Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, made a dramatic and stunning return to the red carpet at the premier of the latest James Bond film, “No Time to Die” in a gorgeous gold Jenny Packham gown with a cape. Her return to form reminds the world not only will she be the next Princess of Wales, but that the magic and mystique of the monarchy is alive and well, despite what Harry and Meghan Markle have done over the last year.
When it was first announced that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall would be attending the latest James Bond premier, there was a lot of anticipation.
After almost two years without any big royal events, throughout most of the continent, and fewer royal events overall, it was an exciting moment. Anticipation was especially high for the Duchess of Cambridge, who’s last black or white tie event was probably the diplomatic reception in December 2019.
And boy, did Kate deliver.
It’s perhaps the most gorgeous gown that she’s ever worn. With the intricate gold beading, dramatic cape and elegant updo, the former Kate Middleton has blossomed beyond her middleclass roots and looked beyond stunning. The word “golden goddess” comes to mind.
After a year with increasingly damaging allegations by Harry and Meghan Markle, which have served to tarnish the monarchy’s reputation throughout the world, Catherine’s incredible red-carpet look reminds the public about why there has been such interest in the British royal family.
There’s just an element that even Hollywood can’t come close to matching.
Daniel Craig, the star of the 007 films, was gob smacked by her saying, “You look jolly lovely.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge said simply “wow” after seeing the Duchess in all her glory.
In fact, all the Hollywood stars looked rightly enchanted by their royal guests—showing that despite the acclaim and red carpets of Hollywood, there’s something special about the royal family.
It’s something that Meghan and Harry, on their own, cannot replicate.
Last week, the California couple made a big splash by conducting a pseudo royal tour in New York City.
While it may have gathered them plenty of headlines, and lots of controversy, it’s hard to see them being able to charm in the same way that Harry’s family in Britain is able to do. A royal title isn’t worth much if you don’t have the institution behind it.
This evening, Meghan Markle may be regretting her decision to suggest that she and Harry leave the royal family, as the Sussexes would probably have gone with the Cambridges.
Catherine’s display not only shows the world why we still care about the British royal family but encourages the public to believe that the monarchy will make it through the turmoil caused by the Sussexes. All the royals have to do is continue working hard, mastering soft diplomacy and, every once in a while, bring the dazzle that can only be achieved by serving the British crown.
